About

Hi, I'm Matt!

Based in the West Midlands, I work with fantasy, sci-fi, and horror authors to ensure their words don’t confuse and their stories don’t underwhelm. My job is to support authors, giving them the confidence needed to finish their book and get it out into the world and into readers’ hands.

And that’s important. Creative fields (especially fiction writing) are hotspots for imposter syndrome and self-doubt.

Yet using words to…

  • build intricate worlds
  • make readers a blubbering emotional mess
  • make characters so real they become best friends (or worst enemies)

…while effectively weaving every thread within the tapestry that hangs everything together is tough! Admirable, in fact.

With reading being my most treasured hobby, I wanted to give back to those who craft such wonderful creations.

I stuck it out far too long in the draining world of retail. I ended up counting down the clock before I stepped in the building – it wasn’t for me anymore.

So, I decided to change that.

Now, I help authors just like you get their book publish-ready, something I have real enthusiasm for (not the forced kind with a plastered-on smile).

Let's collaborate and get your book on track and ready to publish

A huge congratulations is in order; you’ve already made incredible progress – writing a novel is tough!

And what an emotional roller coaster that journey has been. You just want your book unleashed into the world.

For word-level help, you know spellcheckers and Grammarly just don’t cut it. For story-level help, bookish friends and beta readers (while offering valuable feedback) have played their part, and now you need more.

You want professional know-how from someone who gets you, your writing style, and your story.

My training and development

The way I see it, there’s no such thing as ‘completing training’; there’s always more to learn! That’s why I continually pursue CPD – to keep my editing blade sharpened in this evolving industry to provide a service authors deserve.

My approach

Non-judgemental

Your stories are inbued (unwittingly or on purpose) with fragments of your personality, your views, you. So it’s easy to feel that critiques aimed at your writing are also aimed at you.

I will inevitably have to pass judgement on your work, but I will never judge it. My pet peeves will be left at the doorstep, as there’s no room for them when we’re working together. I don’t care if you misuse colons or your pacing’s off; I do care about fixing them to make your book the best it can be.

Working with me won’t leave you with sweaty palms while squirming under scrutiny.

Transparency

‘I’ll proofread your book to perfection’ or ‘I’ll make your book a bestseller’… Sound familiar?

No book is perfect, not even those that’ve been rigorously checked by several editors and readers. Nor can anyone – not even those who promote your book – guarantee sales or bestseller status.

Anyone who’s interested in helping authors, rather than lining their own pockets, wouldn’t make such lofty claims.

I’m upfront about my services, what to expect, and how much they’ll cost. Why? Mainly because I want you to make an informed choice about what you’re getting into, but also because I’m sick of authors being taken advantage of.

Your story should be rife with unexpected twists and turns. Services you pay for shouldn’t.

Collaboration

I want you feeling you’ve partnered with a supportive team member, someone who’ll champion your work and cheer your ears off (I can cheer silently, too).

Editing shouldn’t feel like a stiff, businesslike transaction; nor should it be a one-sided affair. I’ll work with you, learn your goals and what makes you tick, and take your preferences on board.

We’re in this together.

Moore facts

Why Moore Attuned?

Well, most obvious is that Webster-Moore is my surname (yes, Webster is a very apt name for someone who works with words; alas, it doesn’t have the same flexibility). I aim to be attuned with my clients, treating each book as its own project. That, and ‘attuned’ has that slight tinge of the magical about it, fitting the genres I love to work with.

Favourite book?

One cannot answer this question with just one book (at least I can’t!).

  • Robin Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings series
  • Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy
  • Philip Fracassi’s A Child Alone with Strangers

Favourite film?

Huge Studio Ghibli fan here, so Spirited Away just makes the top spot (there are just so many breathtaking anime movies to choose from).

Pan’s Labyrinth.

Any pets?

Mocha and Munch, my two crazy guinea pigs.

Favourite game?

Final Fantasy 7. Hands down. The original of course, although the remake is a beautiful rendition.

Currently reading...

Christopher Ruocchio’s Empire of Silence.
